Practical Self Defense

What we teach
RS³ — Tactical & Medical Response Program
A four-level ladder built around an expanding clock. Each course is two days and sixteen contact hours: day one tactical, day two trauma medicine. Each level re-runs the last and pushes the clock further out.

That is what RS³ stands for — Respond, Secure, Stabilize, Sustain. It is not a slogan. It is the course architecture.
Training runs in a live two-story shoot house with force-on-force against role players who adapt, because a target that does not shoot back teaches you a lie about your own performance.

Church safety teams, school staff, and corporate and workplace violence programs. We deliver the same curriculum with scenario context changed to your building — a sanctuary, a campus, an office suite — and provide the documentation your board, administrator, or carrier will ask for.

Bryan has also spent 25 years in cybersecurity defending critical infrastructure and industrial control systems — the power, water, and manufacturing systems everything else depends on. He holds the CISSP, CAP, CPIN, and GRID credentials.
That is not a side note. Critical infrastructure security is the discipline of assuming a competent adversary, thinking in layers, and rehearsing failure before it happens — and of building programs someone else can audit rather than trusting that things will work out. RS³ is a structured curriculum with published objectives, defined contact hours, and performance-based evaluation for exactly that reason. A weekend of drills is not a program.
Aaron Jamison — Valkyries Austere Medical Solutions
Every medical day is taught by our partner, Valkyries Austere Medical Solutions, founded in 2016.
Aaron is a retired U.S. Army veteran and NAEMT State Coordinator for Alabama, with more than 30 years in military, law enforcement, wilderness, and disaster prehospital medicine, including combat and operational medicine across worldwide deployments. His background runs through mountain rescue, biohazard operations, and SWAT medical support.
We do not have one instructor covering both jobs. You get a tactical team and a medical team, and the medical team does this for a living.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a training course to get a CPL in Alabama?
No. Alabama does not require any training to obtain a concealed pistol license. We still strongly recommend training so you understand Alabama's defensive use-of-force laws and can carry confidently and responsibly.
Can I carry concealed without a permit in Alabama?
Yes. Since January 1, 2023, Alabama allows permitless concealed carry for law-abiding citizens 21 and older (or 18 and older for military).
Should I still get a CPL if Alabama allows permitless carry?
Yes. A concealed pistol license lets you carry in states that recognize Alabama's permit and may speed up firearm purchases.
Who is eligible for a concealed pistol license in Alabama?
You must be at least 19 years old (or 18 if in the military) and not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm.
What training do you offer?
Our training includes SiRT and LaserAmmo pistols, live simulation on the LaserAmmo Smokeless Range and Visual Scenario Trainer, Concealed Carry Fundamentals, the legal implications of using force, the psychology and physiology of use of force, and defensive draw and retention techniques.
